"Such a nice exhibition complex with many great contemporary art works. The french tea and coffe house “Thé ROND” located in the center of the building is definetly worth a try. In addition to being the most iconic filming location from the movie “Your name”, they have nice bakeries and tea, perfect for after visiting the museum "

"This museum, opened in January 2007, was the last major work by architect Kisho Kurokawa. This museum has no permanent collection. Much of its 14,000 square meters of exhibition space is rented out to third-party organizations for temporary exhibitions. They often host major international traveling exhibitions. Exhibition: NACT View 02: Nohara Tsukiji, Nezumikke - The second edition features Nohara Tsukiji (born in 1994), an animation artist who explores new terrain in videos that combine live action with animated images, projection mapping, and other works based on the theme of a fusion of two and three dimensions."

"Take us inside. What's the space like? Housed in an undulating concrete-and-glass structure designed by pioneering Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, the National Art Center, Tokyo is one of the country’s largest contemporary art showcases. At any given time, the museum features four rotating exhibitions spread across 150,700 square feet and 12 galleries. This ever-changing space is the polar opposite of a stuffy, moldering museum and an essential stop for lovers of Japanese art and architecture. Combine your visit with a trip to the nearby Mori Art Museum or the Suntory Museum of Art for a culture-packed day. What can we see here? The absence of a permanent collection allows curators to focus all of their energy on bringing in new, tightly focused exhibitions roughly every two weeks. These include everything from contemporary Japanese watercolors to calligraphy to three-dimensional mixed-media works. While most galleries are free, larger special exhibitions command a modest admission fee (less than $10). Not every show will be to everyone’s taste, but the variety ensures that there's something for everyone at any given time. High ceilings and an uncluttered layout make this museum a joy to browse. Who tends to come here? Free, centrally located, and always featuring something new, this museum is as much for Tokyo residents as it is for foreigners. Especially during the week, the bulk of visitors are local retirees and art aficionados. Regulars tend to head straight for a specific exhibition; others may linger longer. How easy is it to get around? All of the museum’s exhibition spaces stem from the glass-encased central atrium, making navigation a breeze. Speedy elevators and a broad, open layout ensure that the galleries are handicap-accessible, although a few strategically placed benches in the galleries would be welcome. If we're looking for a bit more guidance, will the museum staff help us out? One of the few flaws here is the lack of any guided tours, English or otherwise. Almost all of the signage is strictly in Japanese, although the helpful, multilingual staff at the front desk will gladly step in. Gift shop: obligatory, inspiring—or skip it? Though tiny, the gift shop here is chockablock with items ranging from deliciously kitsch (a bamboo “bento” box stuffed with towels resembling nori rolls) to covetable (woodblock-printed textile and boxes of traditional sweets wrapped in washi paper). And the café—worth a stop in? Each of the museum’s three stories has its own cafe, and the price-point and caliber of the food rise as you ascend the escalator. Both of the upper restaurants rest atop immense concrete conical forms, offering a lovely view through the museum’s glass facade. The bottom level serves boxed sandwiches and serviceable coffee, while the Paul Bocuse restaurant on top has one of the better set-lunch deals in ritzy Roppongi; for about $20, you can order a main such as roasted mackerel with béarnaise sauce, a dessert, and a coffee. That sounds ideal. If we're tight on time, is this place still worth a stop? While some of Tokyo’s museums feel overwhelming, the emphasis on quality over quantity here makes the National Art Center worth even a short visit. If you only have an hour, you can either blitz through the galleries or spend it all on whichever exhibit speaks to you the most."
