The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel : Hôtel, bar & restaurant à NYC

"When a hotel opens in New York, it’s not uncommon for locals to barely bat an eye. This is, after all, a city crawling with them—big, small, modern, classic. It takes an exceptional property to capture the collective consciousness, which is exactly what happened in 2016, when The Beekman opened. The landmark was built in the 1880s with a nine-story, glass-ceiling atrium, but throughout the past century, the atrium had been covered up as the building functioned as just another office. Now the glass skylight soars once again above the lobby’s Art Deco bar where New Yorkers flock to—come 6 p.m. it’s nearly impossible to find a free bar stool. The rooms all have vintage furnishings, with dark wood floors and distressed leather headboards: comfortable but not so much so that you don’t want to leave and miss out on everything happening around you. So many hotels like to say they’ve made the neighborhood, but in the case of the Beekman it’s actually true."

"Beautiful cocktail bar inside The Beekman’s hotel. Worth many visits"

@guglielm

"5* | 287 rooms and suites, $399 to $3,399 HISTORIC, LIVELY As a leading player in the renaissance of the Financial District, The Beekman has guaranteed its place on the social scene of Wall Street employees since opening in 2016 - the bar and restaurant (helmed by chef Tom Colicchio) are regularly packed to the rafters. The noisy but cheerful ambiance can often be heard echoing from the Temple Court Bar Room downstairs to the bedrooms on the upper floors. The latter are distributed around the central atrium, a monumental space with ornamental wrought-iron railings. For fans of New York history, this hotel comes top of the list, as it's nestled within a nine-storey former theatre which was built in 1881, derelict in 2001, and renovated with élan by Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki. Though the rooms are spacious, their lack of light and spartan minimalism are in sharp contrast with the ornamental grandiloquence of the public areas. The service, meanwhile, is impeccably up to par, with attentive staff at reception, a porter, a bellboy and the possibility of having your chosen newspaper waiting by your door in the morning."

"White collar. In 1883, one of NYC’s first skyscrapers opened at the corner of Nassau and Beekman Streets. Known as Temple Court, the nine-story red brick and terra cotta structure was designed in the Queen Anne style by architect James M. Farnworth to attract accountants and lawyers who needed to be close to the city’s courthouses. Its most impressive feature was its central atrium that rises the full height and is topped by a large pyramid-shaped skylight and two rooftop turrets."

@

"Temple Court was one of Manhattan's first high-rises. Finished in 1883, the same year as Brooklyn Bridge just a few blocks away, it was home to attorneys and publishers until the area fell out of fashion from the 1940s. Its red-brick facade was listed in 1998, and the property was restored by Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel to relaunch as a hotel in 2016 with decadent interiors by Martin Brudnizki. The 287 refined rooms feature leather, oak and marble. But it's the updated Queen Anne-style common areas that dazzle most, all wood panelling, velvet and silk, with a nine-storey atrium (above) ringed with wrought iron and topped by a pyramidal skylight. Below, Keith McNallys mosaic-tiled and mirrored Augustine (T212 375 0010) is a happening French brasserie. 123 Nassau Street, T212 233 2300, www.thebeekman.com"
