Palais am Funkturm

"Marshall House, Expansion Palace at the Broadcast Tower 1950 Summer garden, exhibition centre, Hammarskjoldplatz Bruno Grimmeck The Marshall House was named after the initiator of the "European Recovery Programme" from 1947 which financed almost the entire post-war architecture of West Berlin. The show building site of the American activities was originally only meant to be as temporary as this itself. At the same time, the simple construction consisting of a brick-filled steel girder underlines the deprivation of these years. While its eccentric position and spiral soaring entrance hardly face towards the oval of the summer garden, the extension of the palace at the Broadcast Tower, which is six years young-er, is harmonised with the trade fair realisations of the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich (see no. 242). At the same time, the style of the Western 1950s culminated in its casual colourfulness and elegance as seen in large brass windows, dynamic stairs and the dance floor-like garden. In 2007/ 2008 the Palais was gut renovated and remodelled."
