"Sun-splashed Tamarindo draws big crowds with its line-up of sparkling Pacific beaches and palpable Tico charm. Located on the northern edge of the Nicoya Peninsula, the town boasts its very own three-kilometer stretch of sand. Leatherback turtles creep and crawl the coastline along the shore too (Playa Grande is best known for this), while a medley of marlin and giant tuna pull sports fishermen, and the surf swells entice board riders right throughout the year. Add to that a smattering of great hotels and backpacker guesthouses, laid-back beach bars, and access to pretty much all of the breathtaking national parks of Guanacaste – Palo Verde, Rincon de la Vieja et al – and it’s easy to see why this one’s a must!"

"Superleuke surfles! Vanuit het hotel in Liberia kun je met shuttlebus/huurauto/taxi naar Tamarindo, waar Nederlandse Nina surflessen regelt met haar Costa Ricaanse vriend Mariano. De les duurt ongeveer 2 uur, per dag wordt bekeken wat de beste starttijd is (bij ons om 14:00 resp. 13:00), afhankelijk van high tide. Terwijl je les krijgt van Mariano (hij spreekt goed Engels) maakt Nina foto’s (met enorme zoomlens). Surfles incl. foto’s kost nu in het laagseizoen $45 pp, in het hoogseizoen $60 pp (liefst cash betalen). Mariano geeft duidelijke uitleg, wijst er goed op welke golf je moet pakken, wat je moet doen op welk moment, en dat gaf al snel gewenste resultaten! Het was echt heel leuk! Tamarindo is een goeie surf plek voor beginners, maar heeft ook leuke restaurants en winkeltjes. Wij aten daar de lekkerste carrotcake ever, en heerlijke ceviche. En ook ‘s avonds is er genoeg te doen! Ideaal zou zijn om een overnachting te boeken, wij vonden Tamarindo leuker dan het RIU resort 😉 Je kunt Nina een bericht sturen via whatsapp, het liefst 1 of 2 dagen van tevoren, maar soms valt er ook nog wel last minute iets te regelen.
