"The Elephant House, autoproclamé « lieu de naissance de Harry Potter », est le café où J.K. Rowling a écrit quelques uns de ses romans et est probablement le lieu le plus connu d’Édimbourg des Potter’s Fans. Malgré toutes ses prétentions, ce café ne peut pas être le « lieu de naissance de Potter » car J.K. Rowling a déclaré qu’elle a eu l’idée de Harry Potter dans le train de Manchester, en 1990, et avait déjà commencé à écrire son premier roman avant son arrivée en Édimbourg, en 1993. Par ailleurs The Elephant House ouvra ses portes en 1995. Mais il est vrai qu’elle passa bon nombre d’heures dans ce café, notamment pour écrire les suites de la saga : La Chambre des Secrets et le Prisonnier d’Azkaban. Ce café est, depuis, devenu une Mecque pour les écrivains, les poètes et les rêveurs – tous désireux de suivre les traces de J.K. Rowling. Le décor du café est principalement lié aux éléphants, mais il y a des photos associées à Harry ou à Rowling sur les murs. N’oubliez pas de visiter les toilettes lors de votre visite. Les visiteurs ont recouvert l’espace, du sol au plafond, de graffitis en l’honneur de Harry Potter ; le résultat chaotique et poétique est assez impressionnant à voir. Le café a institué une politique : vous devez commander de quoi manger ou boire, voire payer un petit supplément pour prendre des photos de l’intérieur. Cet endroit est un lieu touristique ultra populaire il est conseillé de venir tôt ou en fin de journée pour espérer avoir un siège sans attendre des heures. Si vous le pouvez, demandez une place près de la fenêtre, vous aurez une belle vue sur le cimetière et sur le château d’Édimbourg, de quoi trouver l’inspiration, non ?"

Little boys were dragging their parents into Nicolsons, to see where she wrote the Philosopher's Stone, so she rotated around other cafes and this was a favourite. Eclectic elephant themed decoration, toilets decorated by those on the quest for the Deathly Hallows, that medieval view, $$$, and coffee and hot chocolate as drunk by Rowling.
