"The Springs Resort, Pagosa Springs — Travel Reviewer Take Quality rating: 8.5/10 overall Hot springs experience: 9.5/10 Lodging/value: 7.5–8/10 depending on rate Best for: a relaxing Colorado hot-springs getaway, couples, solo decompression, wellness travel, scenic mountain-town time. Watch-outs: can be expensive, day-pass crowds vary, and the resort feel matters more than luxury-room perfection. Why it’s special The Springs Resort sits right in downtown Pagosa Springs, along the San Juan River, built around the famous geothermal “Mother Spring.” The resort now promotes access to 50+ geothermal pools for Wellness Day Pass users, while General Admission covers the 25 original geothermal pools. Overnight guests get 24-hour soaking access, from 9 a.m. on arrival day through 6 p.m. on departure day, which is one of the biggest reasons to stay on property rather than just buy a day pass. The soaking experience This is the main reason to go. You are not just getting one big pool; you get a collection of mineral pools at different temperatures, many with river or mountain-town views. The official soaking guide recommends starting in a warm pool up to about 100°F, then using hotter pools around 101–104°F for shorter soaks, with hydration and caution for heart or blood-pressure issues. The best part is variety. You can move around, find a quieter pool, soak by the river, cool down, repeat, then come back later at night. For a 60+ traveler wanting recovery, decompression, and low-effort wellness, this is an excellent fit. Rooms and resort feel The property has expanded significantly. The resort’s own site describes 157 rooms across Classic, Deluxe, Lodge, and a newer expansion building. My read: book the room for access and convenience, not because the hotel itself is the most luxurious lodging in Colorado. The pools, location, robes/towels access, and ability to soak early/late are the premium. Expedia lists amenities such as free Wi-Fi, free parking, spa, restaurant/cafe, bars, 24-hour gym/yoga classes, and outdoor hot springs/pools. Best way to experience it Stay two nights if the budget works. One night is enough to enjoy the springs, but two nights lets you settle in, soak at different times of day, and not feel like you’re racing the clock. Because overnight guests get 24-hour soaking access, the best moments are often early morning, evening, and late night when day-visitor pressure is lower. Day pass vs. overnight A day pass works if you’re passing through, but the overnight stay is the better experience. Day visitors can choose General Admission for the original 25 pools or upgrade to Wellness Day Pass access for the broader 50+ pool experience, including adult-only soaking areas and wellness amenities. For you, I’d only do a day pass if you were already in Pagosa. If you’re making a trip out of it, stay there. Location This is a very convenient location. You can walk into parts of Pagosa Springs, be right on the river, and use the resort as a low-stress base. Expedia’s nearby list shows the San Juan River, World’s Deepest Geothermal Spring, and Nathan’s Hippy Dip Hot Spring all within about 0.1 miles, with Reservoir Hill Park about 0.4 miles away. Nearby things to do Keep this trip simple: Day 1: arrive, check in, soak, dinner, late-night soak. Day 2: scenic drive, light town exploring, spa treatment, soak again. Day 3: early soak, breakfast, depart. Good add-ons include downtown Pagosa, the San Juan River walk, Reservoir Hill, Wolf Creek Pass scenic drive, and, in winter, Wolf Creek Ski Area if conditions fit. Value judgment The biggest complaint you’ll see is price. Tripadvisor hot-springs reviews include the theme that the experience is excellent, but cost can be the reason some people rate it lower. My take: if you use the pools once, it may feel overpriced. If you stay overnight and soak multiple times — morning, afternoon, evening, late night — the value improves significantly. My verdict The Springs Resort is one of Colorado’s best hot-springs resort experiences. It is especially strong if the trip goal is rest, recovery, warm mineral water, mountain-town scenery, and an easy, no-hiking-required getaway. I’d choose it for a 2-night wellness reset, preferably midweek, and I’d book the best room category you’re comfortable paying for — but I’d spend more attention on pool access, spa timing, and quiet soaking windows than on chasing the fanciest room."
