"In Yehoshua Rosh haniktra is called Misrefos Mayim= burning water. The radak explains that this is because the sun dries out the salt of the seawater which in turn formed salt deposits in the rocks and salty water would form in the Crack then dry out and get salt from there. Others say that the drying of sun actually helped the chilazon (which lived there) produce the techeiles.
