"Indigenous Mexican. Mole blanco. Oaxacan"

"This sweet spot-turned-social justice refuge for immigration and other activists stands out for its authentic Oaxacan food. In fact, it's revered by the neighborhood as a rare dining delight, thanks to a homey and welcoming vibe. Take the owner, for instance, who loves to wax poetic about the traditions behind the regional cooking as well as the history and art, as evidenced by the lending library in the back. Oaxaca is known for its sumptuous moles, so sample the likes of a wonderfully complex red pumpkin seed version (pipián rojo de pepitas) with pork spare ribs, or the glossy mole Oaxaqueño fragrant with cloves, peanuts, chocolate, and served over chicken. Save room for wildly fresh tamales, teeming with chicken, spices, and tomatillo salsa."

"This relentlessly purple Mott Haven restaurant has become famous for its Oaxacan moles and tlayudas, with some pan-Southern Mexican, Tex-Mex, and Cal-Mex thrown in. The standard roster of two-corn-tortilla soft tacos are available in excellent renditions, including a seriously spicy carne enchilada, al pastor, chorizo, and a particularly noteworthy bistec asado. The welcoming staff is an added plus."
