"From the moment you're greeted by Hay-Adams' stately exterior, you know you're somewhere special. The wood-paneled lobby reveres the hotel's historic past without feeling stuffy. It's all elegant here: seamlessly blending Italian Renaissanceâstyle design with Corinthian, Doric, and Ionic columns, walnut wainscoting, and ceiling treatments with Elizabethan, Italian, and Tudor motifs. Whatâs the crowd like? D.C. powerbrokersâthis is a place for lobbyists, CEOs, and other bigwigs. The good stuff: How are the rooms? St. Johnâs Church View rooms are comfy without being overdone. There's a bit of toile and chintz, but nothing that feels like grandma's house. Think black-and-white framed art, fresh white linens, and chic striped wallpaper. If you can swing it, book The Federal Suite, Presidential Suite or one of the White House View Junior Suites; you'll be rewarded with some epic views of the White House from your private balcony. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Anything of note? Rooms are oddly devoid of in-room coffee and tea facilities. Anything stand out about other services and features?. The fitness center is small and there's no on-site pool or spa, but who comes to D.C. to swim? The place to point your focus is Off The Record, a historic bar in the hotel's basement. A proper cocktail bar, it feels frozen in time, which only adds to the ambience you're likely to feel when you're mere steps from the White House. Bottom line: Why are we choosing the Hay-Adams? "En face de la Maison Blanche. Le seul. Les Obama y ont séjourné le temps de la passation. On voit le balai des hélicoptÚres sur la Maison Blanche, et aussi les snipers en position sur le toit. Curieusement peu proposé par les tour operators et agences francais."
