"2024. From Victorian hunting lodge to hotel, Penmaenuchaf most recently changed hands in 2022, when it was bought by dynamic duo Neil and Zoe Kedward, whose Welsh hospitality group, Seren, includes the much-loved Grove of Narberth hotel in Pembrokeshire. Despite a cracking location on a rugged, wooded hillside with fine gardens and magnificent views, this sturdily handsome old house was - and, to a certain extent, still is - in need of a dollop of love and creative vision. Luckily, the Kedwards approach every new project "from the heart", according to their London-based interior designer Nicola Harding (Beaverbrook Town House, The Mitre at Hampton Court). Phase one, the refurbishment of four attic suites, was completed last summer. STAY AND EAT Penmaenuchaf (penmaenuchaf.co.uk) is the best hotel in the area, located above the Mawddach Estuary just outside the pretty town of Dolgellau, with Cader Idris rising up behind. There are 13 bedrooms within the grand stone former hunting lodge and an exceptional restaurant overseen by chef Thomas Hine. "
