"High-Rise building at Potsdamer Platz 1 2000 Potsdamer Platz 1 Hans Kallhoff, Helga Timmermann With the red clinker-clad building on Potsdamer Platz (no. 412), the architects Kollhoff/Timmermann have succeed with their modern interpretation of the multistorey tradition, which dated back to the first half of the 20th century and whose models are predominantly in the USA. Together with the glazed Sony-Center (no. 467) it forms a new gate position between the once-divided city halves and connects the newly created Leipziger Platz with the Kulturforum (no. 311 ). On the triangular ground plan, the twenty-story building steps down to the roof height of the neighbouring buildings and blends itself harmoniously into its surroundings. Inside, a triangular atri-um which is raised one storey serves as a distributor room. The solid tower vanishes as it rises up-wards like a Gothic cathedral and is crowned with golden keystones."
