"Rifle Falls State Park is a small Colorado state park near Rifle, CO, best known for its dramatic triple waterfall and lush, mossy scenery. It is a great stop if you are driving I-70 through western Colorado and want a scenic, low-effort waterfall visit. Why go: The main attraction is Colorado’s only triple waterfall, commonly described as about 70–80 feet high, depending on the source. There are short trails, limestone caves near the falls, picnic areas, fishing on East Rifle Creek, and a small campground. Colorado Parks & Wildlife lists 13 drive-in campsites and 7 walk-in campsites along East Rifle Creek. Best for your style: This is a very good scenic stop with minimal hiking. The walk to the base of the falls is short and relatively easy, while the loop above/around the falls and cave area adds a little more effort if you want it. A visitor review describes the bottom walk as “short and flat,” with the cave/top-of-falls route being more of a climb. Good visit plan: Plan on 45–90 minutes for a simple waterfall stop, photos, and a short walk. Plan 2–3 hours if you want to explore the cave trail, picnic, or pair it with nearby Rifle Gap State Park. Access: From I-70 at Rifle, head north on CO-13 / Railroad Ave area, then take CO-325 north toward Rifle Gap and Rifle Falls. The park address is listed as 5775 Hwy 325, Rifle, CO 81650. Nearby add-ons: Rifle Falls pairs well with Rifle Gap State Park, Harvey Gap State Park, and Rifle Mountain Park. Rifle Mountain Park is especially known for climbing and canyon scenery, but Rifle Falls is the easier waterfall-focused stop. My take: For a western Colorado road trip, Rifle Falls is absolutely worth the detour. It is not a huge park, but the payoff-to-effort ratio is excellent: short walk, big waterfall, caves, shade, and a very different lush feel compared with much of the surrounding western Colorado landscape."

"Rifle Falls State Park is tiny, with just 48 acres to its name, but it is also one of the state’s most beautiful and unexpected treasures. While limestone cliffs and towering plateaus make up the greater Rifle landscape, the park is surprisingly lush—almost tropical. The little gem features a triple 70-foot waterfall that flows over a travertine dam and limestone caves that are set under the falls. The park is small, but it offers overnight visitors 20 campsites, some with electric hookup"
