"💵 PM HS : 1300€ PN #CNT - $$$ | READERS' CHOICE AWARDS 2021, 2022, 2024 The vastness of the property—bought by Richard Branson in 1987 and now owned by Belmond—is stealth-like, a warren of centuries-old buildings hidden among the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. Despite the 71 bedrooms (including six bright new suites), an art gallery, two artists’ studios, four restaurants, two outdoor pools, tennis courts, a kids’ club, and mountain trails, there is a pervading sense of space and wonderful privacy. All rooms have terraces looking out to the green-shuttered, ochre town and glittering sea, and some have their own plunge pool—ideal in this sun-trap of a valley. Inside, they are big and cool with splashes of citrus shades, marshmallow-soft beds, and safes concealed behind works of art (the hotel has more than 800, of which 33 are original Mirós). The brilliant bistro sends out tapas of jamón ibérico and chorizo cooked in cider—or there’s candlelit El Olivo, where the tasting menu is a hearty and lengthy love letter to Mallorcan gastronomy: freshly caught prawns baked on a bed of salt for just three minutes, suckling pig with a sage and sobrasada sauce, and Sóller-orange ice cream. Each day there’s a soul-brightening boat trip along the coast, where you can play David Attenborough spotting Eleonora’s falcons and snorkel among schools of silvery fish. But the most popular pastime here is taking in that dreamy view. "

"In classic Belmond style, the group managed to find the two most authentically preserved, drop-dead gorgeous sixteenth-century manor houses to act as its Mallorcan flagship. Nestled into Deià’s Tramutana mountains, La Residencia’s massive rooms, three pools, spa, and in-house art gallery make the hairpin turns of the drive from Palma entirely worth it. Inspired by Deià’s artistic spirit, the hotel has a café dedicated to surrealist Joan Miró, with thirty-three of his original works on the walls, and a gallery displaying works from other local artists. Belmond partnered with designer Matthew Williamson, who moved to Mallorca several years ago, on Suite 67—it is easily our favorite. The cottage and pool area are soaked in color, with green floral wallpaper, antique furniture, and thoughtful conveniences like a jewelry tray and Roberts radio on the dresser. In such a sublime setting, between the rugged Tramuntana mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, amid towering cypresses and fragrant olive trees, nothing, could really be bad -- but the Belmond La Residencia manages to be impressive in spite of its enchanting surroundings. The 72-room property, housed in converted 16th century stone villas, hugs the gentle hillside, where a labyrinth of pebbled walkways leads guests past quiet gardens, sun drenched patios, and impossibly perfect lookout points. Rooms, sweetly tuned with the essence of home, have the honeyed patina of late afternoon sunlight. Stucco fireplaces and terracotta floors are brought to life with local watercolors, tawny ceiling beams, and ikat fabrics. And while rooms provide every temptation to curl up with an albarino and never leave, the storybook village of Deia is a five-minute stroll down the hill."

"Un merveilleux hôtel de luxe installé dans une grande villa du XVI e  siècle bien restaurée, et une décoration - antiquités et peintures modernes - réalisée avec beaucoup de goût dans les 73 chambres et suites (dont certaines avec piscine privée). Parfois passent quelques personnalités... Belle vue sur le village de Deià et la sierra. Jardin, piscines (extérieure et intérieure), Spa, sauna, gymnase, tennis... Géré par la compagnie de luxe Belmond. Rien ne manque !"
