"Shingo Gokanâs second Shanghai outpost, Sober Company is the most recent in his impressive stable of eight bars across China and Japan. The three-tiered concept is made up of a cafe, restaurant and bar. New York-style Sober CafĂ© serves breakfast and coffee until the late afternoon, ââwhen aperitivo and coffee cocktails are the name of the game. Line your stomach upstairs with modern Chinese cuisine in Sober Kitchen at tables decorated with mahjong tiles, before heading up to Sober Society â the top spot for cocktails â and sip on the likes of Local Happiness, which uses a local gin as its base, with longjing tea, mandarin and a scoop of bergamot sorbet. Should you complete your mission of three spots in one visit, you just might discover hidden bar Tipsy, for the motto here is appropriately âcome sober, leave tipsyâ."

"No 42 Worlds 50 best bars 2020 / One of several of Shingo Gokanâs multi-levelled playgrounds, you need to set aside a few hours to have the whole Sober experience. Start at the ground floor cafĂ© level for some great coffee and aperitivos. Youâll need some sustenance â head to Sober Kitchen for some modern Chinese/fusion fare (think Mapo Tofu with Foie Gras). One more stop will bring you to Sober Society, where the real drinking starts: go for the Corpse Reviver or one of the Zodiac-themed drinks. A word to the wise: you need to collect a token at each concept and when you have the three, you will be able to gain access to the speakeasy Tipsy. Thereâs no menu here, just tell the bartender what you are in the mood for, sit back and enjoy. Gokanâs Sober Company is somewhat ironically named: the motto here is âCome Sober, leave Tipsyâ."
