"Reuben's Restaurant & Bar is the flagship Franschhoek home of celebrity chef Reuben Riffel, set in the exquisite glass-fronted eatery just off the village's Main Road, with ritzy marble floors, floor-to-ceiling atrium-style glass windows and refined decor. Reuben Riffel is essentially South Africa's Jamie Oliver and was born and raised in the Franschhoek valley, and he opened his first restaurant in his hometown of Franschhoek in 2004; this celebrated original has since moved to its current space but continues to thrive with a buzz of locals and visitors. His approach is fine, uncomplicated and putting flavour first, an aspirational bistro menu of classic dishes done well, with examples like pork belly, peppered springbok steak, and butter chicken curry. Sitting in the heart of the winelands, it backs the food with a wine list to match and a relaxed feel, by the fire in winter and in the courtyard in summer."
