"Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel in Anguilla is outstanding. Of the luxury Caribbean resorts you’ve asked me about so far, this is the one I’d put at or very near the top specifically for the beach. It sits directly on Maundays Bay, with the resort stretched along a broad crescent of powder-white sand and calm turquoise water. The white Greco-Moorish buildings are low-rise and positioned along the beachfront, so it feels much more like a collection of elegant villas than a conventional hotel. Forbes Travel Guide describes it as “barefoot luxury,” and it holds a Five-Star rating. A big advantage is the accommodations. Cap Juluca is heavily oriented toward oceanfront rooms, suites and villas rather than having a huge inventory of rooms buried behind the property. Private terraces, direct beach proximity and ocean views are central to the experience. The overall atmosphere is quiet, romantic and exceptionally relaxed. You’re not going here for nightlife, giant water parks or a busy resort scene. You’re going for a phenomenal beach, excellent service, very good food, snorkeling/kayaking and spending a lot of time doing essentially nothing in a beautiful setting. The property also has the Guerlain Spa and a strong wellness program. For the four properties you’ve asked about, I’d currently score them roughly like this: Resort Beach Luxury Food Privacy Overall Cap Juluca 10 9.8 9.3 9.7 9.6 Baoase Curaçao 9.0 10 9.6 10 9.5 Ocean Club Four Seasons 9.6 10 9.5 9.5 9.5 Kimpton Seafire 9.5 9.4 9.1 8.5 9.2 The distinction is important. Baoase wins for intimacy and romantic private-villa atmosphere. Ocean Club wins for traditional ultra-luxury Four Seasons service. Seafire is probably the strongest choice for a larger family. But if you asked me, “Which one gives me the quintessential spectacular Caribbean beach vacation?” I’d choose Cap Juluca. One drawback: Anguilla is deliberately quiet. There isn’t a huge amount of sightseeing, and Cap Juluca is expensive. But Anguilla has an unusually good restaurant scene, so I would absolutely leave the property for a few dinners rather than treat it like an all-inclusive. For a Bill-and-Tricia Caribbean trip, my current ranking would actually be 1. Cap Juluca, 2. Baoase, 3. Ocean Club, 4. Seafire. Cap Juluca looks especially well matched if the goal is a gorgeous beach, high-end accommodations, excellent restaurants and a peaceful week rather than lots of organized activity."
