"Proof that some good things did come out of the pandemic, this pop-up drive-thru seafood joint is now a bona fide LA institution. On weekends, Malibu residents queue around the corner for the tastiest lobster rolls in town, best eaten with a cold beer at the sharing picnic tables. Travelling car-free and unable to make it up the Pacific Highway to Malibu? They’re opening another branch in DTLA’s Grand Central Market in the summer of 2022."

"A little bit coastal and a whole lot of a party, Christopher Tompkins’s former seafood pop-up is now tucked into the back corner of Malibu Village, where lines form daily just before opening with hungry day-trippers hoping to score some of the city’s best East Coast-style seafood. The casual, open-air atmosphere is the perfect setting to grab a beer and one of our favorite lobster rolls in town (available warm and buttered or chilled with a thin sheen of mayo). Sustainably farmed oysters come freshly shucked and sourced from around the globe, while heartier specials hit the grill: buttery, herbed-up razor clams; panko breadcrumb-dusted blue crab cakes; a meaty burger with shio kombu. Good luck not ordering the whole menu every visit. When a beach day’s not in the cards, you can also find Broad Street inside Downtown’s Grand Central Market and at Smorgasburg LA every Sunday."

"23359 CA-1 #3874A Malibu, CA 90265 (424) 644-0131 Visit Website Broad Street Oyster Company, the nomadic raw bar setup known for Sunday sessions at Smorgasburg and evening oysters at Tabula Rasa Bar, now has a permanent spot in Malibu. The lobster rolls are a thing of beauty, but don’t skip on the razor clams and fresh uni either. Open for drive-thru and takeout daily from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Broad Street Oyster Company is a fantastic seafood shack in Malibu that’s filled with so many oysters, mussels, shrimp, and uni you’ll wonder if their “local source” is actually the Aquarium of the Pacific. It all starts with a trip up PCH, where you’ll find stunning views of the California coastline, endless beaches, houses owned by Tom Hanks and Demi Moore, and – if you’re lucky – an appearance by LA’s infamous bumper-to-bumper traffic on the way back in. You’ll want to order a bit of everything here - oysters and spot prawns from the raw bar, a cup or two of their excellent clam chowder, maybe even a Caesar salad if you’re craving something green - but make sure to include their lobster roll. We like it served hot and absolutely smothered in butter, this luxurious sandwich is sure to impress even the pickiest seafood eaters. Yes, we’re looking at you, East Coasters. Broad Street Oyster Co. pops up every week at Smorgasburg and at MUNI Wines in Santa Barbara - but now, they’ve also got a (sort of) permanent space in a Malibu shopping center (they’re there until November 2019, at least). All the best stuff is caught nearby - including Channel Islands box crab, Santa Barbara uni, and Morro Bay oysters. Order a dozen (and maybe that box crab), get a glass of champagne, and sit by the window so you can watch the birds diving in Malibu Lagoon outside. "

"Malibu’s Broad Street Oyster Co. has done something many Angelenos have clamored for: a truly great lobster roll. The example here, placed into a butter roll and stuffed to the gills with fresh Maine lobster, will cost a pretty penny, but it’s possible the most reliable bite along LA’s legendary beaches. But when a pop-up does convert to a full restaurant, anything could happen. Some open, realize too late they were better off in that backyard, and then disappear into the abyss. Others are like Broad Street Oyster Company. After a few years criss-crossing LA, this pop-up has grown up, with a permanent space in Malibu, a near-flawless menu, and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re hanging out with Jimmy Buffett’s roadies. If anything, it’s pretty close to our ideal seafood spot. You wouldn’t know any of that when you pull up to Broad Street. You might not even know it’s a restaurant. It’s tucked down a corridor in Malibu Village - a mall on PCH where you’re more likely to be run-over by a drunk Mel Gibson than find a kick-ass seafood shack. But once inside, you’ll forget you’re eating next to a SoulCycle. There’s a fantastic view of Malibu Lagoon, thrift store paintings of grizzled old sea captains on the walls, Budweiser flags hanging from the ceiling, an old bamboo-roofed beach bar, and, of course, a stocked beer fridge. But most importantly, there’s a raw bar behind the counter filled with oysters, mussels, poached shrimp, uni, and whatever else is in-season. Sitting in here feels like you’ve just joined a secret society of hard-partying, oyster-shucking pirates, which probably explains why they’ve got $2 Bud Heavies during Happy Hour. If you enjoy a party - or ever wondered “What would happen if Spicoli from Fast Times At Ridgemont High was really into seafood?” - beat a path directly to Broad Street."
