"So, imagine sitting with your feet in the sand, looking up at the stars, next to a lovely fire, having excellent wood-grilled seafood or lamb. It's not on the beach, and you'll want to take an Uber, but Marismo is without question, one of the best dining experiences in José Ignacio, and therefore, in Uruguay. To be honest, It might be my favorite of them all. It is perfect for a family or, alternatively, a romantic night. I suggest booking a table near the best fire pit in town! If I could take people anywhere, this would be on my short list. Tucked away in the woods is Marismo, a hidden gem owned by my longtime friend Federico Desseno. Sitting outside with your feet in the sand, you’ll enjoy their amazing empanadas and refreshing virgin mojitos. Far removed from everyday life, the restaurant invites you to relax and soak in the moment."

"Marismo is in the middle of nowhere, beneath beachy palm trees on the sand and lit solely by candles and fire. As one might imagine, there is no sign. The directions I received were something like this: follow the only paved road on the beach, look for a blue wooden fish at the side of the road, turn left and pull over when you see parked cars. And that was just about right. Inside, everything is cooked on a single wood-fired grill. The charm of the place is unmatchable. I opted for the rack of lamb and washed it down with a few fernet brancas at the bar."
