"Camberwell’s South London Gallery is a hub of activity, both indoors and outside. Alongside two buildings which host contemporary exhibitions, the gallery also features two permanent gardens. The Orozco Garden, created by international artist Gabriel Orozco, is an exemplary demonstration of how art can serve and unite local communities thanks to a planted walkway that provides direct gallery access for residents of a nearby housing estate. The Fox Garden offers a more subdued mood, and blooms with a woodland scheme of hellebores, Japanese anemones and foxgloves that is bordered by the walls of the gallery’s original exhibition space."

"Free gallery so worth popping in if you are in the area. You'll find the main gallery on the ground floor so have a look around. Then stop off at the cafe for a bite to eat. The gardens are open at the weekend. The gift shop is worth exploring. Make sure you go to the fire station to see more free art exhibits after - its a short walk on the opposite side of the road. "South London Gallery has been bringing contemporary art to the inhabitants of south London for over a century, and is particularly known for exhibiting exciting young and emerging artists, such as Julian Schnabel in 1999, Tracey Emin in 1997 and Marc Quinn and Gavin Turk in 1998. Not only is it an exhibition space, often hosting the Bloomberg New Contemporaries exhibitions, it also has an inspired education programme that runs throughout the year, working with residents and supporting local initiatives. In 2018 the gallery raised money through our crowdfunding platform, Art Happens, to take over the newly restored Fire Station opposite the main building, nearly doubling the size of the gallery as a whole."

"Nestled next to Camberwell School of Art and with Goldsmiths to the east, you’d expect the South London Gallery to know its art onions – and you’d be right. With its additional new fire-station building, and a history of shows by artists including Katharina Grosse and Lawrence Weiner, it’s fast becoming one of the city’s most important art spaces."
