"Each house began as a family residence. They hold the memory of our family’s happiness, our ancestors' connection to the land and the sensual nature of the surrounding landscape. Each home has also been a gathering place for friends, family, and travelers. We wanted to share what we had and have others experience it. Today, we have opened our homes for guests to stay. We’ve named this process Silent Living, a lifestyle of happiness and fulfillment that we continue to pursue. HOME We have always felt the need to provide a home away from home for travelers, rather than just a roof over their heads. When traveling, being warmly welcomed into a space allows the strangeness or disconnection to melt away and a comfort and ease to settle in. Home relies on the simplest of things; the warmth of materials, the smell of homemade bread, the memory of pleasure, perhaps a garden view and the quiet stillness of a room. This tradition of opening one's home to welcome travelers comes from our ancestors. To this day, our vision remains rooted in this warm welcome. CEIA IS A FINE DINING EXPERIENCE IN OUR LISBON SANCTUARY - SANTA CLARA 1728. Ceia is our fine dining experience where up to 14 guests gather around one table, to share the same menu and experience, an evening of notable exchanges. "Ceia" - the Portuguese word for supper - recalls for comfort, tradition and friendship. It also represents one of the deepest values within the Portuguese culture, the pleasure of preparing and sharing our food, with the ones we cherish the most, while creating the opportunity to share a significant moment in time, at the end of each day. From Wednesdays to Saturdays, at 19:30, guests have the opportunity to enjoy our 9 course menu "The Last Harvest", created with seasonly harvested ingredients from our farm - Herdade no Tempo. With this menu, alongside the work we are developing in the farm - through regenerative agricultural practices and holistic management - we aim to not only share, but bring awareness to how we are paving our way, to fight the increasing threats caused by the shortage of food, water and desertification. From our soil, directly to our table, this is our seed to plant a change. "

"Santa Clara 1728, Lisbon Stop a local on the cobbled streets and ask for this Lisbon hotel address and you won’t necessarily have any luck with directions, because this tiny space remains strictly for the cognoscenti. It isn’t one of the imposing palatial edifices on grand Avenida da Liberdade where modern hotels have, not always seamlessly, been inserted into old brickwork. Nor is it a tiny, flat-roofed Moorish townhouse in the labyrinth of narrow streets that make up the Alfama. But this six-bedroom property in the old cultural quarter, atop one of Lisbon’s seven hills, removes the feeling of being a traveller in a foreign city, managing what so many promise but don’t deliver: to be a home from home. The rose-hued, multi-storied house was one of the few that survived the devastating 1755 earthquake, its ancient, solid walls tangibly resonating with history. It’s part of the peerless Silent Living family (other siblings include sand-floored marvel Casa Na Areia in Comporta and minimalist temple Casa No Tempo in Evora), so the interiors are perfectly simple and sedate. Overhead lights dapple pools of warmth onto a long oak dining table by architect Manuel Aires Mateus; a richly textured oil painting on the wall adds colour. This is where breakfasts of crushed avocado and suppers of fish of the day with market vegetables are spread out. Upstairs, the rooms are aesthetically minimalist. Open the curtains, climb into the open-plan bathtub hewn from one piece of limestone, and watch the moon rise above the National Pantheon, an integral part of the skyline, placing you right in the here and now. Mary Lussiana Santa Clara 1728 For a change of pace Santa Clara 1728 offers something a little different than anywhere else. Unlike the many converted palaces or even charming townhouses found in the old town, this six-bedroom property in the old cultural quarter, atop one of Lisbon’s seven hills, removes the feeling of being a traveller in a foreign city, managing what so many promise but don’t deliver: to be a home from home. The rooms are aesthetically minimalist. From the open-plan bathtub hewn from one piece of limestone to simple (but sumptuously comfortable) beds, it’s what so many achieve but most don’t quite make it; welcoming."
