Business execs and a sophisticated international clientele mix and mingle over cocktails or afternoon tea in the lobby’s plush, Art Deco-inspired Peacock Alley, adorned with the Waldorf’s signature grandfather clock. The backstory Waldorf Astoria is known for its impeccable service, luxurious rooms, and classic interiors with refined Art Deco touches, and the Berlin property, which opened in 2013, doesn’t disappoint. It’s the only Waldorf Astoria in Germany. The rooms Rooms are seriously big—starting at 452 square feet—and designed in a contemporary style, with neutral gray velour furnishings, swirl-patterned rugs, and a statement-making gold wall behind the beds. Large marble bathrooms have separate tubs and showers in every category, and the in-mirror televisions and Aesop toiletries add a luxurious touch. Reached by a separate elevator, the Tower Suites (floors 22 to 30) are worth it for the views—of the city, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, or the neighboring Tiergarten park and Berlin Zoo. For a true splurge, the massive 31st-floor Presidential Suite—complete with a grand piano, open fireplace, and two balconies—boasts sweeping city views from every room. Food and drink Channeling the legendary film director Fritz Lang, the Lang Bar sports a cool Art Deco vibe, with a long, curving marble bar topped with brass lamps and retro-style booths and tables. It’s one of the most atmospheric spots in the city for a classic cocktail. When the Lang Bar is closed in summer, head to the seasonal Mistral Rooftop Restaurant and Bar (which is actually on the sixth floor) for refreshing summery spritzers and cocktails. The spa Germany’s first, and only, Waldorf Astoria Spa is a true oasis; spanning over 10,000 square feet, it features a cloud-shaped indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam room, hydro-therapy Vichy shower, five treatment rooms, and a sun terrace, plus a state-of-the-art fitness center. The neighborhood/area The Ku’damm, and all its upscale designer shopping and dining, is around the corner, and major attractions—including the Berlin Zoo and Tiergarten park—are just across the street. Etage des Waldorf Astoria kannst du deine Tea Time in der Library Lounge genießen, während du auf die Gedächtniskirche und die Berliner City West blickst (für den besten Ausblick fragst du am besten nach einem Platz direkt am Fenster). Der High Tea, der im Waldorf Astoria serviert wird, ist eigentlich ein klassischer Afternoon Tea mit Sandwiches, süßem Gebäck und Scones. Die Anzahl an dargereichten Köstlichkeiten ist dabei nicht sonderlich üppig, deshalb solltest du keinen großen Hunger mitbringen – die Tea Time lohnt sich dennoch sehr, denn die Atmosphäre ist einmalig in Berlin. Occupant 15 des 32 étages d’une tour flambant neuve de l’ex Berlin Ouest, le Waldorf Astoria Berlin est le dernier arrivé - il a ouvert ses portes fin 2012 - sur le segment des hôtels 5-étoiles de la capitale allemande. Contrairement à ses concurrents américains (Hyatt, Ritz-Carlton, Radisson) ou français (Sofitel), l’enseigne de luxe du groupe Hilton n’a pas choisi Potsdamer Platz ou Mitte et a préféré s’installer à un carrefour central de la partie Ouest de la ville magasins, dans un quartier en pleine réhabilitation. Le zoo est littéralement de l’autre côté de la rue, la fameuse Ku’damm et ses grands magasins est à deux pas. Le décor imaginé par le studio français Inter Art Etudes mélange les influences contemporaines Art Déco fidèlement au véritable Waldorf Astoria new-yorkais. Chambres vastes (minimum 42 mètres carrés), ultra confortables (salles de bain luxueuses en marbre, literie) et à la point de la technologie (écran 40’ avec Apple TV, second écran dans le miroir de la salle de bains) et vues sur le zoo et les alentours sont au programme. Pour son offre de restauration et de bien-être, Waldorf Astoria a fait appel à deux grands noms français. Guerlain signe le vaste spa du cinquième étage (avec piscine intérieure) tandis que Pierre Gagnaire se cache derrière la table gastronomique de l’hôtel, Les Solistes, récompensée d’un premier macaron Michelin quelques mois seulement après son ouverture. Les plus fortunés pourront songer à s’offrir la Suite Présidentielle. 280 mètres carrés de pure luxe à 115 mètres au dessus du sol : la plus haute et la plus luxueuse des suites de la ville."
