"You will see signs for the Congress Trail near the General Sherman Tree. If you have time, hike the 2-mile loop through giant sequoias. It is an excellent chance to escape the crowds since many visitors focus on the Sherman Tree rather than exploring the surrounding area."

For any photographers looking for good light and unique angles, I personally recommend the Congress Trail during early morning or late afternoon hours, as this generally brings out the best photo opportunities when the light breaks through the small gaps in the canopy."

"Questo bosco di 7,8 kmq protegge gli alberi più grandi del parco. Percorrete il Congress Trail di 3 km, asfaltato e ad anello, che passa accanto al General Sherman, al Washington Tree (la seconda sequoia più grande del mondo) e al Telescope Tree, un albero cavo. Un consiglio: procedete con calma sulla via del ritorno, perché la camminata è ripida e, a oltre 2100 m di quota, l’aria è rarefatta. Il Trai of the Sequoias (5 miglia/8 km) consente di allontanarsi dalla folla. La Giant Forest fu chiamata così da John Muir nel 1875. A un certo punto, sul delicato apparato radicale delle sequoie sorgevano oltre 300 edifici, tra cui alcuni campeggi e un lodge. Riconosciutone l’impatto negativo, nel 1997 il parco ha iniziato a rimuovere le strutture e a ricollocare i parcheggi. È stata inoltre introdotta una comoda navetta per i visitatori, che ha significativamente ridotto il traffico e i potenziali danni ai maestosi alberi. Le mostre interattive illustrano le fasi di vita dei maestosi alberi, che possono vivere oltre 3000 anni, e il ciclo del fuoco che propaga i semi delle piante, consentendo loro di germogliare sul terreno brullo."
