"Joe Fontelera has made it. The accomplished chef who once helmed the kitchen at Michelin-starred sushi station Arami has opened his own restaurant with a ton of personal meaning. Boonie’s is a Filipino American restaurant in the Lincoln Square area where Fontelera’s family first moved to after arriving in America. Find Fil-Am favorites from lumpia to loganissa executed with a modern edge and with a ton of joy. It’s a casual spot and poised to join Kasama as Chicago’s next great Filipino spot."

"Sisig-Sisig (/ˈsiːsɪɡ/[2] Tagalog pronunciation: ['sisig]) is a Filipino dish made from pork jowl and ears (maskara), pork belly, and chicken liver which is usually seasoned with calamansi, onions, and chili peppers. It originates from the Pampanga region in Luzon. The intoxicating, unmistakable aroma of garlic fills the narrow room every time someone opens the rice cooker. This rice is the foundation of all things that are good at this homey Filipino restaurant that started out as a food stall. To begin, the crispy pork belly hash is an impressive starter that could very well double as an entrée. Pork, in fact, is all over this small menu, arriving as crispy belly or marinated with herbs and spices or presented as sausage. Tender filets of steelhead trout swimming in a burnt tomato and tamarind broth offer a delicate reprieve from the meat. Dessert is a must: A creamy plantain comes wrapped as a spring roll, dusted in brown sugar and deep fried. It’s as close as you’ll ever get to a handheld crème brûlée. Appetizer: & Lumpiang Shanghai - Crispy fried pork spring rolls ., a fan favorite and a great intro to Filipino food. Sizzling Sisig - Crispy pork belly hash with an egg on top O , served on a sizzling plate. Liempo - Perfectly grilled pork belly with Jufran BBQ sauce, juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned Pro Tip: Get the garlic fried rice instead of plain white rice Main Dishes: & Kare Kare - Braised short rib with a rich sunflower butter sauce and homemade spicy bagoong jam dish. •, a delicious take on the classic adobo 9 • Adobong Isda - Black cod with coconut water ), a surprising and delicious dish."
