The Birds Eye Jazz Club

Don't talk during the concert!” are we wisely warned in advance by those who know the place, because the address is shared between initiates; and jazz is religion here. It may not be a coincidence that the club is located in the basement of the Saint-Léonard church. On the huge immaculate facade that runs along Kohlenberg, there is only one door, a single entrance, similar to the eye of an owl. "The Bird's Eye", of course. Inside, the atmosphere is liturgical, the tables are almost placed as in the Jesuits. Mass begins, and even the most agnostic will convert to worship: this jazz club remains the most renowned in Europe, and it has not stolen its reputation. Founded by bassist Stephan Kurmann and directed by the Jazz-Live Basel association, The Bird's Eye enjoys incomparable acoustics, while the programming features both emerging local talents and international artists.
