"Japan's largest volcano. Despite the volcano’s activity, the area is safe for visitors: you can even approach the Nakadake crater on the main peak, and observe the fumaroles and sulphurous emanations. The presence of the volcano gives the region a dramatic and mystical character, with volcanic landscapes interspersed with pastures. In addition to meadows, the Mount Aso area is also home to lush forests and tranquil lakes straight out of a fairytale. The ancient cedar forests all around the mountain are ideal to go hiking."
