"What’s the deal? A teeny-tiny Parisian-style cave à manger and deli next door to the equally impressive Llewelyn’s, with exec chef Lasse Petersen doing the business. Why go? It’s enormously cute, with tables and stools that spill out into the charming square outside Herne Hill station, pleasantly thrumming year-round and borderline Gallic in the summer gloaming. Order this Don’t leave without one (or four) house gildas, where guindilla chillies and salted anchovies are subbed for subtler, piquant roquito peppers, pickled anchovies and a cornichon."

"Wine shop, provisioners, and sandwich-slinging bolthole by day, bustling cave à manger by night, Lulu’s is the Lilliputian sibling of Llewelyn’s next door (sharing both chef and loo, plus a predilection for stripped-back, seasonal plates). The menu brims with pan-Euro gems—de rigueur gildas and devilled eggs; Cantabrian anchovies with preserved lemon; agnolotti stuffed with Jerusalem artichoke, then dusted with hazelnuts and parmesan—while the wine list offers perfect pours from interesting and unheralded European vignerons as far afield as Poland, Georgia, and Slovenia.
