"There's been a bistro revival in the capital lately—an anti-trend of sorts, as reassuringly familiar French restaurants are having a moment. But few have been so well-received as Josephine Bouchon, the latest opening from Claude Bosi (Bibendum, Brooklands) on Fulham Road. The restaurant is named after Bosi's grandmother and is based on classic eateries in his hometown, Lyon. There are jumbled photo frames stacked on the back of Burgundy-hued banquette seating, vintage French posters set against the walnut wood paneling, and a mirror inscribed with each day's plat du jour against one wall. Knowing Bosi's reputation in the white tablecloth, fine dining world, I was a bit skeptical that the menu would be refined beyond recognition. My fears were unfounded. Steak Hache, boeuf bourguignon, and rabbit with mustard and tarragon all stay true to Lyonnaise tradition: rich, comforting, old school. Another welcome surprise: Josephine is incredibly reasonably priced for a restaurant from this caliber of chef, in this part of London. The menu de canut, named after the silk workers who would traditionally frequent this type of restaurant in Lyon, is $38 for three courses. Wine is served by the pot, brought to the table in a 16-ounce bottle, measured by ruler, and charged to your bill based on how much you drink. A follow-up will open in Marylebone soon, a sure-fire sign that Bosi and his wife Lucy are onto a winning formula. London is finally falling back in love with French food. Dish to order: saucisson brioche"

"Ambience and service is great, a candlelight dinner but not too dark or silent, more casual. Wine selection was nice, but with the usual markup. We had the terrine as an entrant which I would say is a must. For mains the chicken pie and the skate with caper sauce with a gratin dauphinois as a side. I recommend from these the chicken pie especially, although the other plates were nice too. They had a nice detail to bring dessert for Charlotte’s birthday, which shows their great attention to detail. Price is a bit steep but they have the menu the canut which we didn’t try with 2 courses for £25. "
