"Top on CNT 2021 The best way to arrive at AltaGracia is by private prop plane, for a bird's-eye view of the 180-acre jungle resort sprawled out in Pérez Zeledón by the foothills of the Talamanca Mountains below. Punctuating the landscape are 50 roomy casitas, all with a safari-meets-boho design that combines leather, linen, patterned textiles and locally made pottery. There's a fire in the living area for chilly evenings; a plush wooden canopied bed in the bedroom. But the real beauty is outside: those tropical forest views from your private pool, or the gently swinging daybed on the stone terrace. Colourful birds and butterflies flit about. Frogs croak, fortissimo. A tree climb to the top of the canopy might bring a rare encounter with a scaled pigeon (and it's worth keeping your eyes peeled for armadillos on night strolls). Other activities include horseback riding (stables are on site), hiking and whitewater rafting. Less adventurous - and a big reason to stay - are the locally inspired therapies at The Well (a partnership with New York's holistic wellness centre of the same name).
