"Our winner for Michigan’s Most Iconic Restaurant in 2019, this restaurant made of tamarack trees dates backs to 1894 and is definitely off the beaten path. It is located along the scenic banks of the Cheboygan River, right at the mouth of Mullet Lake. From decorative wooden canoes to an eclectic collection of decor, the inn glows with warmth and charm. Factor in the floor-to-ceiling windows that invite a sunset view or natural beauty and you know you’re in a special place. Servers know the regulars, as well as those who stop in for the first time to experience fine dining in Northern Michigan. Their goal is to make it a memorable night. Owned by the Redding family since 1979, they endured a challenging 2020 like the entire restaurant industry, but overall weathered it well because they’re a seasonal restaurant and avoided the second shutdown. They’re ready to welcome you back in 2021, as guidelines permit, of course. (Check their Facebook page for opening dates.) The menu is diverse with everything from prime rib and salads to Whitefish almondine to buffalo steak. We recommend the lightly smoked whitefish dip as an appetizer. And any of the homemade desserts, especially the coconut cream pie, if it’s available. Call it a night with one of their signature hummers, which are creamy little booze bombs that will definitely have you coming back for more."
