"Vegan Spanish tapas Delicious after-work tapas and drinks, with nary a slice of ham or a hint of egg to be found. There is, however, lots of cheese – made with cashew, spread on sourdough toast with smoked carrot “salmon” or served with marinated aubergine, olives and crispy breadsticks. Classic Spanish bites like croquetas or patatas bravas with vegan mayo and Sichuan chilli oil are stellar as well."

"alaska is one of our favourite place in berlin. it's a spanish tapas bar, fully vegan. they offer all the traditional tapas, from patatas bravas to tortilla (which is amazing, you wouldn't believe it's vegan) and croquetas! we love the vibe of the place, friendly, small (and always crowded), with political statements and nice (second hand?) decorations. the portions are big and each tapas costs around 5€. you can't go wrong with any item on the menu, but the tortilla and salmon toast are really something! if you can, try EVERYTHING! they also have good wines. the only thing we don't like too much is the music (too commercial for our taste). "

"David Ballesteros Mas is constantly having to explain the concept of vegan tortillas to guests: It’s just chickpea and cornflour, water and salt — nothing complicated there. But it’s always the same question: “Spanish tortillas without eggs? How is that possible?” The Spanish restaurateur gets it every night. At Alaska, the cosy vegan tapas bar in Neukölln's Reuterkiez David runs with fellow spaniards Daniel Fernandez Campos and Estefania Medina Muñoz, they serve traditionally vegan Mexican tortillas, rather than the Spanish variety. The trio — none of whom has a background in gastronomy — started out serving wine and cocktails, but the tapas has really taken off. “A lot of people come for dinner, now,” says David. They make everything by hand — from the croquettes to the cashew cheese, and vegan clichés like tofu or seitan never make it as far as the plates.
