The Parakeet Pub : Gastro Pub et restaurant britannique à Londres

"1) Masala Fried Gurnard - some of the crispiest fish I've ever had and possibly the best pub dish too. I love any and all pub dishes with a little bit of South Asian flair. 2) Crab Lasagna - layers of pasta filled with fresh crab, Béchamel, spinach and deep fried. This tasted like something you'd find at San Sebastián pinxto stop. 3) Braised leeks, pecorino sauce, smoked mushrooms - we were told by the waiter this is a signature dish of sorts and I can see why. Not your typical pub food. 4) Lamb belly, Peanut, Sichuan pepper - Almost all of the food here is cooked in an open kitchen with a wood fired stove and this dish likely benefitted the most as lamb and live fire are a taste match made in heaven."

"When two former Brat chefs revived this glorious old-world pub, they cemented Kentish Town’s place on the culinary map. Despite serving up precisely engineered small plates and impressive cuts of protein licked with flames, The Parakeet has maintained all the unstuffy, laid-back qualities of a British pub. The dark wood walls, open fireplaces and exposed brickwork nod to the building’s 1860s origins and make an ideal setting for devouring tasty food, well-poured pints and interesting wine. It also hosts live jazz on Mondays and a pub quiz on Tuesdays."

"Very cosy Gastro-pub with really good modern english food."

"Hotdinners (readers vote). The team behind Camden's Jazz Café and The Blues Kitchen took over a pub in Kentish Town, gave it a proper makeover and brought in a hot new chef (ex-Brat chef Ben Allen) who's been delivering an excellent menu with a fair bit of cooking over fire. All that and it's remained a proper pub too. The Parakeet has been a big success since opening and it's obviously been very popular with Hot Dinners readers too. —- What's the deal? A pub-slash-restaurant where you're surrounded by the hallowed sight of stained glass windows, saintly portraits and the heavenly smell of meat and fish being cooked over an open fire. Here the kitchen is the altar, and the guests, on dark wooden pew-like seating, wait eagerly for their communion. Why go? In the kitchen are Brat alumni Ben Allen as head chef and sous chef Ed Jennings. Their food sits in the wheelhouse of modern British and European-inspired sharing plates. If you’re suffering from small plate fatigue, don’t be discouraged, because The Parakeet didn’t come to play. The eats here shouldn't be taken lightly – this is rich, interesting food, elegantly presented. Order this The laminated kouign-amann cake (they get theirs from nearby Kossoffs bakery) cut in half and adorably poking out from a sea of frothy burnt butter custard. Salty, nutty and just sweet enough."

"I got invited to try out the hottest new restaurant in london @the_parakeet and I wasn't disappointed!!! As you come into this newly refurbished pub and walk through the busy bar, you come across a stunning dining room, which was absolutely full of happy customers. After looking over the menu, which is a massive blackboard on the wall, this is what we ordered..... ☆ potato bread with smoked butter ☆ mutton sausage ☆ oyster with pickled elderflower ☆ lamb belly, peas and girolles ☆ muscles, gooseberry and grilled cucumber salad ☆ charred quail, mulberry, chicory ☆ steak and onions Honestly, this was one of the best meal I've had in a long time! 10/10 for everything, food, service, atmosphere. Everything we ate was perfect cooked, looked incredible, and every ingredient had a purpose It's 100% in my too ten restaurants in london!! "
