"Here’s your full travel review, Bill. ----- ## Baha Mar, Nassau, The Bahamas **MAPSTR TITLE** Baha Mar – Nassau’s mega-resort with three hotels, 3,000 ft of Cable Beach & a jazz club ----- ### 0 | OVERVIEW Baha Mar sits on the pristine white sands of Nassau’s Cable Beach, offering three world-renowned hotel brands — Grand Hyatt, SLS, and Rosewood — each with stunning ocean views, an epic selection of pools, a 15-acre luxury water park, over 45 chef-inspired dining experiences, and a dazzling range of amenities. It’s the Bahamas’ answer to a world-class resort campus — think less scrappy Caribbean charm and more polished, orchestrated spectacle. The resort stretches across 3,000 feet of pristine white-sand beach on Cable Beach, and what separates it from Atlantis across the harbor is a somewhat more curated, design-forward sensibility — and, depending on your hotel choice, dramatically different vibes within the same property. ----- ### 1 | BEST TIME TO VISIT Peak season runs December through April with the best weather but highest prices and crowds. Shoulder season in May and November offers good weather with fewer crowds and moderate prices. Off-season from June through October brings the lowest prices, though it’s hurricane season. Late spring (April–May) is the sweet spot for value: reliable sun, warm water, and noticeably thinner crowds. Baha Mar also posts a hurricane guarantee policy, which is worth reading before booking during summer months. ----- ### 2 | GETTING THERE Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) is the main Nassau gateway, about a 30-minute ride from Baha Mar. Direct flights connect from most major U.S. hubs. Nassau offers U.S. Customs Preclearance, so you land home as a domestic arrival — a genuine convenience perk. No Bronco Sport needed; once you’re at Baha Mar, you’re largely staying put on a massive campus with everything accessible on foot or by internal resort transport. ----- ### 3 | WHERE TO STAY This is the most important decision at Baha Mar — three brands share all amenities, but the experience differs significantly. **Rosewood Baha Mar** (Best for William’s style) — With just over 200 rooms, it’s a smaller, more exclusive property at the quieter end of the resort, far from the water park buzz and the SLS party scene. Rosewood guests get access to a private beach and a secluded pool. It’s the top choice for honeymooners or anyone seeking exclusivity, personalized service, and a romantic atmosphere. This is the one that aligns with your preference for character over polish — it just happens to be very polished too. Rates run $600–$1,200+/night. Worth checking Marriott Bonvoy rates/points if applicable. **Grand Hyatt Baha Mar** (Best value, most central) — The largest hotel at roughly 1,800 rooms, right in the center of the property near most pools, restaurants, the casino, and sports facilities. If you carry top-level Hyatt status, you’ll be directed to a dedicated check-in line and receive meaningful perks. World of Hyatt points work here, making it the most redeemable option for loyalty travelers. The Grand Hyatt Reserve section offers butler service and upgraded amenities for a step up within the brand. **SLS Baha Mar** (Skip for this trip) — A great choice for adults-only trips, especially younger travelers who want to join in on partying in the evenings — but the noise level is significant enough that even guests in the nearby Grand Hyatt West wing complain about it. Not the vibe for a retired road tripper looking to decompress. ----- ### 4 | WHAT TO DO **Beaches & Pools** Baha Mar has 11 distinct pools across the resort. The Grand Hyatt main pool is the largest and most social; the Grand Hyatt lazy river stretches 1,000 feet with cabanas; the SLS pool skews adult-oriented and sophisticated; and the Rosewood pool is quiet and exclusive, reserved only for Rosewood guests. The beach is legitimately excellent — no harbor-facing compromise here, this is real Cable Beach frontage. **Baha Bay Water Park** The 15-acre luxury water park features multiple water slides including a thrilling 120-foot drop, an action river, a FlowRider, and a 500,000-gallon lagoon wave pool — and it’s included with your room rate. Even if waterparks aren’t your scene, walking through it once is worth it. **Casino & Nightlife** The Baha Mar Casino features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Cable Beach’s turquoise water, combining high-energy gaming with an elegant setting and live sports betting by William Hill. Grammy-winning Jon Batiste launched his first-ever Jazz Club at Baha Mar in 2025, with nightly live shows. That alone sets this apart from Atlantis. **Dining** Over 45 restaurants, bars, and lounges include experiences from world-renowned chefs and casual spots serving locally inspired fare. Standouts include Cleo (Mediterranean at SLS), Katsuya (Japanese fusion), Marcus Fish + Chop House (James Beard winner Marcus Samuelsson), and Café Madeleine for relaxed mornings. One honest caveat: prices are high — expect an additional 25% on top of menu prices from service fees and VAT taxes. Budget accordingly. **Sports & Recreation** The resort features a Jack Nicklaus Signature-designed Royal Blue Golf Course, the John McEnroe Tennis Center, mini golf, basketball, bocce, and croquet. Plus complimentary paddleboards and kayaks on the beach. **Wildlife** Baha Mar maintains an on-site wildlife sanctuary featuring flamingos, sea turtles, nurse sharks, macaws, Aldabra tortoises, and an aviary. The daily flamingo parade is a genuinely charming touch that cuts against the Vegas-in-the-Bahamas impression. **Wellness** Two full-service spas — ESPA (Grand Hyatt) and Sense, A Rosewood Spa — plus an oceanfront fitness center with classes. ----- ### 5 | INSIDER NOTES - All three hotels share Baha Mar’s amenities — pools, beach, restaurants, casino, water park — but the private Rosewood pool and beach are exclusively for Rosewood guests. Book Rosewood if you want a quiet escape that can dial up the energy when you choose, not when the SLS crowd decides. - If you’re a World of Hyatt member with status, the Grand Hyatt is the points play and the perks are real. Globalist status members get dedicated check-in and meaningful upgrades. - Food and drink costs add up fast — 25% in VAT and service fees on top of already resort-elevated menu prices. Budget a “Bahamas tax” on everything you consume off your room rate. ----- ### 6 | WILLIAM’S RETIREMENT VERDICT Baha Mar is Paradise Island’s more grown-up, design-forward sibling — same stunning Bahamas water, but with a curated edge that Atlantis doesn’t quite match. For your style, the Rosewood is the only realistic call: private beach, quiet pool, boutique scale within a mega-resort campus you can tap into on your own terms. First move upon arrival: get a cabana at the Rosewood pool, order a Kalik, and let the flamingos wander past while you decide whether the Jon Batiste Jazz Club is worth the walk after dinner. (It is.) ----- ### MAPSTR TAG TABLE |Place Name |Emoji|Mapstr Notes | |------------------------|-----|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Baha Mar Resort |🏨 |Nassau’s premier resort campus; 3 hotels, Cable Beach, 45+ restaurants | |Rosewood Baha Mar |🏨 |Quietest, most exclusive of the 3 hotels; private pool & beach; boutique luxury | |Grand Hyatt Baha Mar |🏨 |Central, most social; best for Hyatt points redemption; Grand Hyatt Reserve for upgrade | |Baha Bay Water Park |🌄 |15-acre luxury waterpark; included with room; 120-ft slide, wave pool, action river | |Baha Mar Casino |🏛️ |Largest casino in Caribbean; floor-to-ceiling ocean views; William Hill sports betting | |Jon Batiste Jazz Club |🍽️ |Grammy-winner’s first jazz club; nightly live shows; opened 2025 | |Marcus Fish + Chop House|🍽️ |Marcus Samuelsson’s Bahamian-inspired steakhouse & seafood; James Beard pedigree | |Cleo at SLS |🍽️ |Mediterranean-meets-Middle Eastern; SLS’s standout restaurant | |Royal Blue Golf Course |🚗 |Jack Nicklaus Signature design; ocean views; bookable for non-resort guests | |Cable Beach |🌄 |3,000 ft of white sand fronting Baha Mar; genuine open-ocean beach, no harbor compromise|"

"This hotel is amazing. It's huge so if you don't like people, don't go here. This is truly a resort. Large casino, many pools, a Waterpark, large beach, huge fitness center, spa, marina, etc. Everything is extremely clean and well maintained. It almost has a Disney vibe to it. There are several restaurants. I only had a piece of pizza.. Very good. We had a corporate rate so it was cheap. But usually the rooms are in the $800-1000 range. There is no advantage between East or West towers. Definitely get an ocean side room as high as possible. Rooms are spacious and very nice. I am sure there are other similar places on Nassau but this place is nice. I think even number rooms are on the ocean side "

"Just an hour south of Los Angeles, The Resort at Pelican Hill calls Newport Beach's stretch of gleaming coastline home. The sweeping coastal retreat houses the largest circular pool found in the US, with over one million hand-cut glass tiles at the bottom to dazzle both kids and adults alike. During the summer months, the pool becomes home to the daily “Morning Splash,” with floaties and inflatable fun for all. The resort’s 332 bungalow and villa accommodations feature several “Imagination Amenities”—complimentary to resort guests and ideal for kids two to 10—including a bath bucket of fun soaps, cups, and toys, and an easel with drawing supplies to create a special art nook in any accommodation. Other kid-friendly programming includes the Mommy & Me Gelato and Manicure experience, and youth yoga for ages three and up. Villa rentals are available in two-, three-, and four-bedroom configurations and range from 2,200 square feet to 3,581 square feet."

"Dr. Wilson say this is better than Atlantis (although Atlantis may have a better pool experience). He also recommended swimming with the pigs (all inclusive and they draw sharks in too!)"

"“For many years, Atlantis was like the heart of the body,” says Philip Bethell, owner of the transfers and tours company Bahama Exquisite, as he shuttles me from one hotel to the next. He points to the massive Baha Mar resort complex on the horizon, a multi-hotel campus featuring a private beach; a newly opened water park; a casino; numerous restaurants, bars and pools; an art gallery; and even wildlife sanctuaries for flamingos and marine creatures. “They’re really giving Atlantis competition.” Advertisement - Continue Reading Below It’s not hard to understand why. Baha Mar was an enormous, multi-billion-dollar construction investment on the island, and when its three hotels—the Grand Hyatt, the SLS, and the Rosewood—opened in April 2017, November 2017, and June 2018, respectively, the race to overtake Atlantis’s long-running resort dominance began. Such extravagance could have made Baha Mar seem overstuffed, but the opposite is true: Perfectly balanced between family-friendly and opulent, the 1,000-acre property is a well-oiled machine. The Grand Hyatt is the most budget-friendly of its structures, with the SLS the most contemporary and the Rosewood most swanky, but each have their share of exclusivity, which makes even turning a corner at Baha Mar feel like stepping into a new, intriguing realm. A walk along the beach will reveal multiple shopping stalls and food trucks, and myriad pools offer party vibes, relaxation, or childlike adventure, depending on your needs for the day. Don’t check out without a trip to the ESPA, a 30,000-square-foot luxury spa ideal for unplugging."
