"The building is architecturally striking — 5 stories tall, with a sweeping curved-glass outer wall, a broad atrium (“Urban Room”) that floods with natural light, and a design that invites wandering between reading galleries, open staircases, balconies and walkways.  • Inside you’ll find a “Gallery at Library Square” that mounts rotating art exhibits (paintings, photography, sculpture, mixed media), which gives a dose of culture beyond just books.  • There are fireplaces on several floors, a comfortable reading environment, public-access computers, a Creative Lab (for digital media, 3D modelling, etc.), magazines/newspapers reading rooms, and quiet corners — a nice mix of urban “indoorsy” stroll + subtle brain-food.  • If you want, you can also head to the Rooftop Terrace (weather permitting) for a 360° view over the Salt Lake Valley / mountains — a small bit of outside-in-indoors charm.  💡 Why it works for a cold or gloomy day: It’s warm, dry, visually interesting, and you can easily spend 1–2 hours (or more) walking gently between floors, browsing books, exploring exhibits, or simply people-watching with a coffee in hand."

"Know Before You Go It's open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Sunday, the hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. don’t see many libraries in guides like this, but you don’t see many libraries like the Salt Lake Public Library. Designed by internationally celebrated architect Moshe Safdie, the building and grounds are works of modern art. Take the six-story crescent-shaped walkable wall to the rooftop garden and enjoy a 360-degree view of SLC.  "
