"The Norval Foundation is a modern art museum and sculpture garden situated in Cape Town, in the Tokai area of the southern suburbs, on the edge of Table Mountain National Park with views over the vineyards and an indigenous wetland. It opened in 2018, founded by the Norval family, and its pavilion building, designed by DHK Architects, sits on the edge of an indigenous wetland and is thoughtfully designed to harmonize with its surroundings while minimizing environmental impact. The focus is the research and exhibition of 20th- and 21st-century visual art from the African continent and its diaspora, shown across purpose-built galleries and a permanent outdoor sculpture garden with monumental works by artists like Nandipha Mntambo and William Kentridge. Beyond the art, the grounds hold an outdoor amphitheatre, research library, restaurant and bar, shop, and children's playground, making it as much a half-day outing as a gallery stop."
