"Singular Patagonia is a major fixture in the high-design adventure-lodge world, and with this sequel the Singular group turns its attention to the urban hospitality scene. The Singular Santiago is no less visually distinguished than its countryside sibling, though it’s a little more refined and a little less rugged in its approach. The location, in the hip Lastarria quarter, is an auspicious one — though practically the whole of the city is visible from the hotel’s rooftop bar. A stylish spa is a particular highlight, as is the hotel’s restaurant, where French techniques are applied to Chilean ingredients. Bustling with sidewalk cafés, quaint restaurants and markets, is also home to the hottest new hotel in the city. The intimate nine-floor Singular hotel, which opened its doors in late 2014, was inspired by neoclassical French architecture and the neighborhood’s early-20th-century buildings. Although built from the ground up, it feels like a classic that has been around for years. The sixty-two guest rooms are bright and spacious, decorated in muted palates of creams and grays. Blending contemporary and classic styles, they are warm and inviting. A few have balconies, but only those on higher floors offer a view. A 3,300-square-foot subterranean spa offers special chakra treatments focused on creating physical, mental and spiritual harmony. The best space in the hotel, however, is the roof, which holds a pool and a terrace that draws a local after-work crowd with its large wooden bar area and views over the city. There is also downstairs lounge where expert bartenders have perfected the art of mixing cocktails. In the ground-floor restaurant—elegant but relaxed, with linen tablecloths, checkered floors and sparkling chandeliers—waiters in bow ties serve local seasonal dishes accompanied by wines drawn from a list featuring a great selection of local varietals. With an excellent staff providing service that is at once attentive and discreet, the boutique Singular offers travelers all they could wish from a city-hotel experience: a great location, comfortable rooms, delicious food and fabulous amenities.
