"Let me just say it up front: the hike to Tamanawas Falls blew our expectations out of the water and earned itself a spot on our list of the best hikes near Mt. Hood (and the best hikes in Oregon, too). The reward for the relatively small effort is a towering waterfall plunging off of a rocky shelf and into Cold Spring Creek 110 feet below. On the hottest summer days – remember, you’re on Hood’s eastern flank here, which is decidedly warmer than western Oregon – the mist from the falls is a lovely respite. "

"The thundering Cold Spring Creek plummets off of "a 150' lava cliff near the eastern base of Mount Hood," free falling onto a boulder field below to create Tamanawas Falls, according to OregonHikers.org. This hike is immensely popular, and the trailhead often fills to capacity… but reaching the falls can pose a small challenge."

"The hike begins at the Sherwood Trailhead (AKA Tamanawas Falls Trailhead) in the Mt Hood National Forest. The hike is 3.6 miles roundtrip, and will lead you through the woods along the beautiful Cold Spring Creek all the way to Tamanawas Falls. One unique perk of this hike is that you'll find a large hidden cave behind the waterfall that will give you a spectacular view of the falls from behind. The cave is mostly dry, but you'll want to be careful not to slip on the rocks."
