"Situé à quelques mètres du Noguchi Museum, le Socrates Sculpture Park fait partie de ces projets uniques qui font l'originalité de New York. A la fois espace d'exposition et jardin pour les résidents (de nombreuses activités gratuites, sportives ou autres y ont lieu), le Socrates Sculture Park offre la possibilité aux jeunes ou moins jeunes artistes d'exposer des sculptures de tailles souvent imposantes. Le jardin occupe un ancien terrain abandonné des rives de l'East River, complètement réhabilité dès 1986, quand une coalition d'artistes eut l'idée de le créer. A voir absolument par beau temps et lors d'une visite du musée adjacent, ne serait-ce que pour la vue sur Manhattan..."

"Socrates Sculpture Park is placed on what was a former dumpsite next to the East River. The area was in 1986 taken over by a coalition of community activists and artists and made into a vast outdoor gallery. In the following years Socrates Sculpture Park has presented thousands of artists from around the world. Every few months, new sculptures are erected replacing previous ones. Beside the art, Socrates is a communal park with occasional concerts, dance parties and farmers markets - and the always fantastic view of the Manhattan skyline Socrates Sculpture Park is open all year round from 9 to sundown. Absolutely everything at the park, from access (365 days of the year from 9:00 AM to sunset) to classes like sculpture workshops or dance classes for kids (all listed on their website), is totally free. The park is a great spot for a warm, sunny day and picnics are welcome on the grounds. Alcohol and large parties are not allowed, but pets are welcome on leash. "
