"#CNT - TOP ACTIVITIES IN TTO Librairie de Livres Rares @Uni Toronto Part of the University of Toronto, this library is home to the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, which comprises some 740,000 rare books, from a Babylonian cuneiform tablet to medieval manuscripts to a first-edition folio of Shakespeare plays from 1623. Best of all, the library isn't limited to students and researchers—it's open to the public. Not only can you view special exhibitions, attend lectures, and participate in workshops in the space, but you can also request to view any work in the collection. The library is housed in a brutalist building constructed in 1973. Inside, it has an almost cathedral-like atmosphere, with many of the books lining the shelves in a multi-story atrium. As you might expect, there are always students and researchers working in this library, but you'll find members of the public perusing its exhibitions. The fact that anyone can walk in off the street and request a viewing of these pieces of history is a special thing."

Part of the University of Toronto, it houses over 740,000 volumes and 4,000 meters of manuscript holdings, including notable items such as a Babylonian cuneiform tablet from 1789 BCE, Shakespeare’s First Folio (1623), and Isaac Newton’s Principia (1687) .
