Owners Jason Lau and Angela Zhang previously worked in bars and fine-dining spots in New York, while Zhang’s mom Helen, who leads the kitchen, used to run a more traditional Chinese-American restaurant in McLean. The flaming pu pu platter on a lazy susan is a fun way to start—it’s full of fried goodies like crab rangoons and crackly shrimp tempura. And the “famous” General Tso’s chicken deserves its title, thanks to a glaze that’s more tangy than syrupy sweet with a kick of heat. Songbird is equally a destination for its cocktails, whether a jasmine-infused vesper martini or a clear mezcal-and-tequila concoction with cantaloupe and winter melon. Occasional DJs and guest bartenders add to the nightlife vibes."
