Ce qu'en disent les utilisateurs

"Located in historic Back Bay, Uni is not any kind of Boston seafood restaurant you've been to before. Stepping into the dining room here is like stepping into a darker, sexier Boston than you thought you knew. Uni began as a humble sashimi bar underneath the Eliot Hotel in 2002 and expanded into its own full-fledged concept in 2015. Who tends to come to Uni? Over the years, Uni has earned its place from Boston’s toughest critics and customers as one of the city’s most beloved dinner spots. Thanks to its tiny location and alluring atmosphere, it’s a popular date night spot for the neighborhood’s pretty young things. Okay, start with the drinks: What should we pick up from the bar? The cocktails and sake are strong and don't disappoint on any level, but the real stars here are the wines. Chef-owners Tony Messina and Ken Oringer have brought in an elegant mix of European whites, reds, and bubbles that stand up to the menu's intense flavors, as well as a range of sakes by the bottle both imported from Japan and from craft producers from as close as Brooklyn and Medfield, Massachusetts. Not sure how to pair wine or sake with your sushi? Don't worry; the waitstaff will walk you through potential pairings. On to the food—what does the kitchen do best? Any can't-miss menu items? Executive Chef David Bazirgan combines the exacting techniques of traditional Japanese sushi and izakaya restaurants, with a fanciful dose of cosmopolitan global influences. Whatever you end up ordering, be sure to start with the iconic Uni Spoon, a piece of raw sea urchin with quail egg yolk and topped with osetra caviar meant to be devoured in a single bite. It’s one of the most decadent and instantly recognizable starters in the entire city. How's the service? You can count on the staff to orchestrate a well-paced, beautifully portioned meal. Tell them which rolls and mains you have your eye on, and they'll help course it out for a balanced experience. So what is Uni's reputation among Boston foodies? Sushi purists might turn up their noses at Uni's irreverent combinations of flavors and ingredients, but most would agree that purely in terms of flavor and execution, Uni takes a risk and knocks it out of the park."

"10th on Best Restaurants of Boston Magazine 2024 $50-100+pp Each course in chef Tsuyoshi “Take” Takeishi’s omakase tasting experience looks like it should be guarded under glass (or, at the very least, snapped for Instagram). Bejeweled with the likes of blood orange, saffron-pickled fennel, and micro wasabi, the glistening slivers of fish are lush, velvety treasures to be savored. But what sets Uni apart in a very crowded sushi scene? The team’s equal enthusiasm for cooked dishes, little gems of Asian fusion that enhance à la carte feasts here with, for instance, sambal-aioli-slicked fried chicken in pillowy bao buns, or shishito peppers with Sapporo caramel and smoky lapsang souchong."

"Hidden in Back Bay’s Eliot Hotel, Chef Ken Oringer’s UNI injects traditional Japanese cuisine with local New England catches. The menu features inventive, global innovations like fried oyster bao buns and garlic king crab noodles alongside a long list of a-list sashimi and nigiri cuts. "

"Possibly my favorite place in Boston! So so good"

"Uni evades easy descriptions. Yes, it’s a “sashimi bar,” but that hardly does justice to chef Tony Messina’s jewel-like raw presentations, such as knifejaw with blueberry kombucha. “Japanese-inspired small plates”? Sure—though Wagyu dumplings with cheddar-dashi broth, a heckuva play on a steak-and-cheese, probably weren’t what you were expecting. But that’s the beauty of this modern izakaya: It must be experienced to be understood, and even then, more surprises await each return."
