"In the hush of this minimalist kaiseki restaurant, where small intricate dishes are served in precise sequence, small details draw the eye. The shadow of a tree branch, framed by a shoji screen window behind the golden cypress counter, lengthens and fades. The texture of the hand-chiseled wooden doors echoes the skin of soy-glazed fish served in dashi. The chefs, working inches away behind the counter, plate each of the nine courses on a different ceramic dish or porcelain bowl selected by owner Natsuko Tsujimoto. Her husband, Kenzo Tsujimoto, made his fortune as the founder of video game pioneer Capcom before purchasing land in Napa, establishing his eponymous winery and restaurant. The link between its tranquil setting and the raucous cartoon violence of “Street Fighter” is wonderfully dissonant."

"1 Michelin star 2025 Kenzo Tsujimoto's Napa Valley temple of traditional Japanese cuisine is a place to wash away worldly cares. Designed by his wife Natsuko, this 25-seat space is serene and minimal. The best seats are at the long counter, where diners can chat with the chefs and watch their meal being prepared. The kaiseki experience is beautifully composed, elegantly paced and may feature dishes such as lotus root dumpling topped with crispy oita icefish owan or Alaskan black cod with sancho pepper. Desserts, like their matcha ice cream topped with sliced strawberries or baked apples with cream cheese frosting and cinnamon, end the meal on a sweet note. While the sake variety is extraordinary, Kenzo Estate’s own Napa-grown wines are also available by the flight."
