"After operating 17 years in Nob Hill, Sons and Daughters found a fetching new home in the Mission. The interior resembles a pristine spa, with a dining room encompassed in tan wood, which extends from the floors to the walls and up to the ceiling. Chef Harrison Cheney, who cut his teeth at prestigious European kitchens, delivers a captivating New Nordic tasting menu of more than 20 courses, displaying virtuosic use of acidity. An arsenal of house-made vinegars figures into the most memorable dishes: On a recent winter visit, pickled roses that accompanied razor clams tickled the palate with gentle, floral tang, while the sourness of the standout marinated rutabaga pierced through decadence of foamed pork fat. "2 Michelin stars 2025 Green Star (sustainable gastronomy) Offering an abundance of poise, polish, and charm, this cozy Nob Hill jewel box remains quietly impressive. With a passion for pickling, fermenting, curing, and smoking, Chef Harrison Cheney and his tight-knit team present a cleanly minimalist, new Nordic menu that deftly weaves together a variety of preserved fruits and vegetables, flawless seafood, aged meats, and superb sauces. Courses like scallop with house-smoked pork belly and turnip cream or grilled black cod with fermented asparagus foam are beautifully composed and astutely flavored. Rutabaga is something of a signature and arrives transformed into thin noodles dressed with a remarkable smoked pork fat sauce. Service, meanwhile, strikes a perfect balance of relaxed and attentive."

"Top 100 You can feel Noma’s impact at restaurants throughout the Bay Area — a focus on foraging, a fondness for fermentation — but Sons & Daughters is the closest you will get to the pioneering Copenhagen institution in San Francisco. While chef Harrison Cheney hails from the United Kingdom, stints working with Icelandic and Norwegian chefs left their mark on his culinary style. Since assuming the helm at this 15-year-old restaurant in 2023, Cheney has transformed the tasting menu into a tribute to New Nordic cuisine. There are edible flowers, toasted hay and garums galore. The potent, acidic flavor profiles might be challenging for some, but dinner at Sons & Daughters is an exhilarating slice of Danish fine dining in our own backyard. Sons & Daughters’ seasonal tasting menu is served in an intimate black-and-cream space led by chef Harrison Cheney, recipient of the 2023 Michelin Young Chef Award. (1 star)"
