"Espresso Lab Microroasters is a pioneering specialty coffee roastery and brew bar at The Old Biscuit Mill on Albert Road in Woodstock, just east of the city centre. One of the early names in South Africa's third-wave coffee scene, with roots tracing back to roaster David Donde and now run as a dedicated microroastery, it roasts small lots on site and describes its daily quest as finding the optimal way to enjoy coffee, building close direct relationships with farmers to reflect the terroir and origin of each coffee. The space has a deliberately laboratory-like concept, displaying coffees with shorthand codes like a science lab, in keeping with its precise, analytical approach. It is known for a large range of espresso and filter drinks plus a few coffee cocktails, with a signature style that leans bright, fruity, and lighter-roasted, divisive among traditionalists but widely rated by enthusiasts as among the best coffee in the city."
