"The setting all around lake Balea is astonishing. The lake is situated high up in 2,034 meter altitude along side a road named Transfagarasan (DN7C). Transfagarasan is one of the most famous mountain-roads in in Europe, and probably the most breathtaking road in Romania. The road connects Pitesti to Sibiu and this Hidden-jam Glacier-lake is a place few can just overlook without a stop. During winter it is not accessible by car,only via cable cart but it is worth the while – the pure snow engulfs you. During summer the vivid blue waters are hard to look away from and also the reflecting mountains and houses make the view even more stunning. The first ice hotel in Eastern Europe was built not too far from the lake in 2006. TIPS: – Wake up just before sunrise and enjoy the view of the Lake around dawn. – If you stay at the ice hotel – be sure to wear extra warm clothes."
