"As part of the American Alliance of Museums, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is as much a living museum as it is a garden. The impressive 78-acre site is planted with over 1,000 rare and indigenous species from towering redwoods to colorful California poppies. Five miles of scenic trails provide access to the gardens and breathtaking views of the San Ynez Mountains and Santa Barbara’s Channel Islands beyond its boundaries."

"The influence of Santa Barbara's early Spanish settlers is still alive and well in this California city, from the architecture to the traditional festivals. Take to the streets, drinking in the whitewashed buildings crowned with orange-tiled roofs, and you'll have to remind yourself that you're not in the Med. Among the city's most impressive buildings is the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, with its striking clock tower and lush grounds. Beyond this, the most famous sight of all is the Old Mission Santa Barbara (pictured), founded by Spanish Franciscans in the late 1700s. "Un superbe jardin botanique, à visiter surtout au printemps quand il est en fleurs le long de ses 8 km de sentiers à parcourir. Le jardin est divisé en plusieurs sections qui présentent chacune des variétés de plantes différentes. La section Arroyo présente des fleurs que l'on trouve à proximité des cours d'eau. En suivant le Campbell Trail, vous découvrirez le chaparral, un ensemble de plantes qui évoluent habituellement dans les montagnes rocheuses de Californie sous un climat sec. Dans la section sur le désert, on peut voir les plantes qui survivent dans les milieux les plus arides. Vous serez étonnés de voir qu'il n'y a pas que des cactus... Le jardin réserve bien d'autres surprises, tout comme cette charmante tea house japonaise qui a été construite à Kyoto en 1949 puis léguée au jardin botanique en 1998."
