All this has been achieved by the visionary brother-and-sister hoteliers Nicolas and Virginia Peluffo. The siblings collaborated with their father to orchestrate the construction of the original fifteen Superior and Deluxe bangalos overlooking the ocean, spread across a spectacular peninsula with a small private beach. Since then, they have added a total of ten uberluxe Villas and Emerald Villas in 2004 and 2008 respectively. Villas and Emerald Villas (the rooms to get) are decadent open-plan suites, equipped with fireplaces, indoor Jacuzzis, wood-paneled saunas and outdoor plunge pools with stunning vistas of the surrounding green and turquoise water. The pace of the resort is very slow and beguiling, which draws a lot of couples and honeymooners. Hike to the nearby fishing village, boat out to get fresh oysters and mussels, relax on the beach or have an open-air massage in one of three water-side treatment rooms. In fact, many guests never leave the sanctity of their bungalows, except to enjoy a world-class meal by the propertyâs star chef Luis Salvajoli. "That more than a few guests arrive by private helicopter gives some sense of the sort of place Awasi Santa Catarina is. Occupying a prime spot on the sandy white Emerald Coast in the southern province of Santa Catarina, the property is pleasantly removed from Brazilâs highly developed resort scene. No Copacabana-style contemporary high-rises are to be found on this section of the shoreline â just twenty-five privately sited cabanas, scattered across the lush natural landscape. No grass mats or rustic mosquito nets adorn the guest quarters, however. The chic air-conditioned bungalows are completely outfitted with up-to-date features; Egyptian cotton sheets, flat screen televisions, fireplaces, and internet access keep guests cozy inside, while soft hammocks and chaise lounges on private verandas provide ideal vantage points for panoramic sea views. Higher-end bungalows offer terrace jacuzzis, wine cellars, plunge pools, and, for the ultimate in preserve-the-mystery amenities, spacious double bathrooms with separate his-and-hers facilities. Naturally, the fish is fresh and the caipirinhas free-flowing at the resortâs restaurant; honeymooners who spare no expense in the quest for romance can book dinner service on the torch-lit private island. "Became an Awasi in 2025. Our preferred hotel in the region is Ponta dos anchos, on a peninsula north of the island, which has its own idyllic cove. There are stand-up paddleboards and Canadian canoes to use at will, as well as a wellness centre, tennis court, fitness centre and indoor swimming pool. We can also arrange a scenic helicopter flight or a relaxing trip along the coast in a traditional fishing boat. This would also be the perfect ending to a longer trip in Brazil, Chile and Argentina, as it is just a two-hour direct flight to FlorianĂ?polis from Buenos Aires."
