"You mean the Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman. This is a substantially more upscale property than the UMARIMBA lodge you just asked about. The Seafire is one of Grand Cayman’s premier luxury resorts: modern architecture, a large beachfront pool complex, a very good stretch of Seven Mile Beach, spa, multiple restaurants, and a polished full-service-resort atmosphere. IHG lists it directly on Seven Mile Beach, about 6 miles/10 km from Owen Roberts International Airport. What stands out is that it gives you luxury without feeling as formal as something like the Ritz-Carlton. Condé Nast Traveler describes it as more boutique and contemporary, and the property has both regular hotel rooms and larger bungalow-style accommodations. Those bungalows are particularly interesting for families because some have kitchens and considerably more living space. The beach and pool setup are strong. Recent traveler feedback consistently highlights the beach, plentiful chairs and shade, the pool areas, and good service around the beach and pool. There are also water activities available, and excursions such as Stingray City, Starfish Point and diving can be arranged from the property. Dining is another strength. Seafire has several on-property dining options rather than just a generic hotel restaurant, and Grand Cayman itself has an unusually strong restaurant scene for a Caribbean island. So this is a good destination if you want to leave the resort for dinners occasionally rather than be locked into an all-inclusive setup. The downside is price. This is firmly in the luxury category, and Grand Cayman itself is expensive for food, drinks and activities. Seafire is also not an all-inclusive resort, so the room rate is only part of the vacation cost. For the kind of family vacation you’ve been comparing, I would rate it very highly: Beach: 9/10 Pool: 9/10 Rooms/property: 9.5/10 Restaurants: 9/10 Family suitability: 9/10 Luxury: 9.5/10 Value: 7/10 Overall: about 9/10 If you’re considering this for the larger family trip we’ve been looking at, Seafire is definitely worth putting on the shortlist. The key question becomes whether you want several hotel rooms/suites at Seafire versus one large beachfront house in North Captiva/Outer Banks versus an all-inclusive in Mexico. Those are three very different vacation experiences."
