"If you don't want to splash out the money for a helicopter ride, the 4 minute ride on the Roosevelt Island Tramway over the East River is a cheaper way to get a unique perspective on the City. It only cost a swipe of the MetroCard Built in 1976, this tramway - the only aerial commuter tram in the U.S. - offers the most amazing views of NYC, climbing 250 feet above the East River. Roosevelt Island was on w closed to the public, but it is now home to a residential community and a number of parks and landmarks. Among them the ruins of both a former smallpox hospital and a former insane asylum. The tramway leaves at the corner of 2. avenue og E 60. street "
