" WHY STAY? For a fresh take on a long weekend in the Cotswolds. All the hallmarks of a classic countryside getaway are present and correct at Hyll: 60 acres of meadows to romp across, a buttery-hued Grade Il-listed manor house perched at the prow of the hill and sheep baaing merrily in the paddocks. But when it comes to design, Manchester studio Youth has looked more closely to Antwerp than Cider With Rosie - with the result being soft, earthy colour palettes, tactile natural materials and moody lighting in the restaurant, courtyard bedrooms and nook lounge. Hyll's 26 rooms are divided between a Grade II-listed manor house and a clutch of restored outbuildings on 60 acres of private woodland, just outside Chipping Campden. The interiors evince as much New York loft or Antwerp attic as they do quintessential English charm, with Crittall-style windows, contemporary design shapes and a staid palette that leans to monastic. Downstairs there are fireplaces and a turntable, along with the restaurant, which will shortly launch a supper club series with Borzoi Books, the in-house literary partner. This will feature creatives of all types and take place over three-course dinners. A clever amenity: the in-room menu of guided sound meditations and breathwork sessions, which can be downloaded and tailored to guests' wants. hyllhotel.com, from £250"
