"Open every day from 10am to 6pm DESIGN MUSEUM Created in 1950, the furniture company Vitra, led by the Fehlbaum family, has never ceased to attract the finest designers of its time. After a devastating fire in 1981, it was decided to rebuild by hiring the most innovative architects of the time. The result, as soon as you enter the campus, a hallucinating overview. The visitor is invited to follow a journey of a unique architectural and artistic ensemble in the world. Nowhere else are so many big names gathered in such a small space. Around Frank Gehry's Design Museum and the production plant (1989), we find the signatures of Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid or Álvaro Siza, all honored with a Pritzker Prize. Similarly, the essential Balois duo Herzog & de Meuron, with the equally essential VitraHaus (2010), showcase of marketed production, and Schaudepot (2016), which presents some four hundred flagship objects among the seven thousand in the collection (Bouroullec, Morrison, Jongerius, Nichetto...). According to a geographic classification (Italy, Scandinavia, etc.), we can observe the backstage in the basement, as well as the reconstitution of Charles Eames’ office in Los Angeles. The recent garden of Piet Oudolf (2020), that comprises thirty thousand plants with life and flowering cycles all diets is a pure wonder, and not only in spring.
